About the Museum
Our History
The SRAC Museum of Scouting was established in 2003 as a special project of Semialachee Lodge 239, Order of the Arrow. The lodge was celebrating its 60th anniversary that year, as well as hosting the annual Section 4 South Conference for hundreds of Arrowmen from across the state. The museum offered a unique way to commemorate these milestones and recognize the rich history of Scouting in our area.
The museum started with only a small collection of artifacts, most of which had been in cases hanging in the dining hall at Wallwood for years. It wasn’t long, however, before the word spread and donations of photographs, patches, scrapbooks, memorabilia, and stories of every description began pouring in. Because of this generosity, the museum now has a vast and growing collection of historical resources documenting our council’s history back to its earliest days.
Governance
The museum is administered by the Suwannee River Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, through a committee of local Scouting volunteers. All museum collections are property of the council.
